Midterm Scene Assignment - Smash

Season 2, Episode 12

In this Scene Ivy, who is playing Marilyn Monroe on Broadway is singing her finale song on Opening Night. Its a triumphant scene because Ivy has gone through two seasons of drama in trying to attain and keep her role. This song shows Ivy making it from a chorus girl to the star of a broadway musical. This song applies to the overall musical (Marilyn's Biography) but also Ivy's struggle to the top

Very Long Shot - to establish the scene. Ivy signing Opening Night as Marilyn Monroe

Medium Shot - To Show who is singing she sings about the beginning of her journey.

Long Shot - To show she has a full audience watching.

Very Long Shot - to show the theater the orchestra the audience and Ivy.

Medium Shot - Ivy and a sailor. to show ivy acknowledging their presence.

Mediem Close Up - Two Shot to show Marilyn and Kennedy as she signs a line about singing happy birthday.

Medium Long Shot to show other men on stage.

Extreme Long Shot - to show again the audience, the orchestra, the audience, Ivy and the cast to show the magnitude of the stage she is on.

Medium Two Shot Ivy and the Sailor interacting.

Medium Close Up of the old Director who is also Ivy's ex-boyfriend in his reaction shot. He is wishing he had treated ivy better because now the song lyrics are about her men trying to control her.

Medium Long Shot - to show again what is happening on stage.

Medium Close- Up Two shot of two more old cast member enjoying the show, happy for Ivy's success.

Medium Long Shot - to show the point of view from on stage

Medium Long Shot - Back to watching Ivy

Medium Shot - The song Building so the shot tightens to raise tension in the scene.

Medium Close Up - Ivy finishing the second verse.

Now The scene gets really interesting. This is a spinning dolly shot where the people who gave Ivy a hard time throughout the last two seasons appear on stage with her as an alternate reality shot. It was probably done with a spider dolly

Medium Close up Two Shot and Over the Shoulder - To show the people Ivy ha to overcome to get where she is.

My favorite shot
Close Up - Ivy singing a huge note, and we are back to her performance on stage.

Long Shot - from a high angle to show Ivy is now the only one on stage.

Medium Two Shot - reaction shot form the Director and the Writer of the musical.

Medium Long Shot - Ivy onstage point f view if you are watching from back stage

Long Shot - Ivy singing the beginning of chorus for the last time.

Medium Long Shot - More of the chorus.

Medium Close Up - the reaction shot

Long Shot - Ivy getting to the last line of the chorus.

Very Long Shot - The last word of the song!

Extreme Long Shot - Ivy is done singing.

Medium Close Up - Ivy waiting for a response from the audience. Afraid of not getting their approval.

Very Long Shot - A standing ovation for Ivy.

Long Shot - Ivy Takes a Bow

I learned from this scene how many shots it really takes to create a 30 second scene. This assignment was so intense trying to get all the screen shots. The shots however it made the scene really come together and end the season.
